Q1: What is SPECjvm98?
A1: SPECjvm98 is a benchmark suite that measures performance for
Java virtual machine (JVM) client platforms. It contains eight different
tests, five of which are real applications or are derived from real applications.
Seven tests are used for computing performance metrics. One test validates
some of the features of Java, such as testing for loop bounds.
In all tests, heap size was set to 32MB and problem size to 100.
Note: The maximum problem size of 100 was ok back
in 1998, when SPEC first introduced this benchmark,
but today an ordinary desktop computer completes each test in just a few seconds.
We have therefore changed SPECjvm98 source code so that each test is executed 10 times
without restarting the JVM, thus reducing the "warm-up" effect.
