Field of Use Notice
For the avoidance of doubt, this notice is aligned with the Java SE technology licensing terms established by Sun Microsystems. Please refer to Section 1 "Definitions" in the Sun JDK Binary License and the Java SE Embedded Use FAQ for details.
The Excelsior JET Runtime is licensed for use exclusively in General Purpose Desktop Computers and Servers, defined as computers, including desktop, laptop and tablet computers, or servers, used for general computing functions under end user control (such as but not specifically limited to email, general purpose Internet browsing, and office suite productivity tools).
The Excelsior JET Embedded Runtime may be used in systems and solutions that provide dedicated functionality (other than as mentioned above) or designed for use in embedded or function-specific software applications.
Commercial Use
Excelsior JET is priced per developer seat. There are no runtime fees as long as you are not targeting embedded systems.
Windows and Linux versions are separate products. Cross-compilation is not supported. A discount applies if you buy a Windows+Linux bundle.
Excelsior JET comes in three editions: Standard, Professional, and Enterprise, compared in the Feature Matrix.
All purchases include one year of support and upgrades. You may choose a Basic, Standard, or Premium support contract. Upon expiration, you may renew your support contract for another year.
Support contract renewals commence from the expiration of the previous support period, regardless of when the renewal is purchased. If you missed the renewal date by more than one year, you may upgrade to the latest version at a discount.

Academic Use
Excelsior JET Academic Edition has all features of the Professional Edition, but costs just $100 per seat. Restrictions are only present in the license:
- You may only use the product for education and non-commercial research
- You would not receive much support, though we would gladly accept your defect reports and include fixes in Maintenace Packs
- The license terminates when you graduate or quit teaching
Non-Commercial Use
Authors of non-commercial Java software are welcome to apply for a free license.
