New version of the native code Java(tm) compiler improves Swing performance, adds executable image optimization, NT Services support, VB6/VBA integration and more

NOVOSIBIRSK, RUSSIA - Excelsior JET 3.0, Standard and Professional Editions are available for purchase from Excelsior, LLC and authorized resellers worldwide. The Personal Edition is available for free download from Excelsior's Web Site. ABOUT EXCELSIOR JET

Excelsior JET, Standard Edition is a static (ahead-of-time) Java to native code compiler, which transforms J2SE applications into Windows binary executables that run directly on hardware. In addition to EXEs, it allows you to create Java DLLs callable from C, C++, Delphi, Visual Basic and other environments. Unfortunately, due to Sun license restrictions, the resulting executables require the entire JRE to run.

The Professional Edition adds JetPerfect Global Optimizer for better application performance and smaller disk footprint, creation of JRE-independent executables from programs not using Swing and AWT, executable image optimization, and a freely redistributable Caching JIT compiler. The JIT compiler is intended for handling dynamically loaded classes that could not be precompiled and enables you to compile to binary executables any J2SE application that can be run on a "conventional" JVM, such as HotSpot.

The Personal Edition is functionally equivalent to the Standard Edition, but does not allow you to deploy compiled applications.

NEW IN VERSION 3.0 (both Editions)

• Full support for the latest J2SE 1.3.x and 1.4.x microversions

• Support for large heaps (up to 1.5GB)

  The maximum heap size in the previous version was 512MB.

• Toolkit for creating Windows NT Services

  A small Java API allows you to convert your server-side Java programs into standard Windows NT Services that may be registered in the system with the help of the supplied utility.

• Deployment of CD-based applications

  Application compiled with Excelsior JET may now be run from a CD - no installation required.

• Java-VB6, Java-VBA integration via COM

  You may now call DLLs created by Excelsior JET from your VB6, VBA and C++ programs via COM. Calling from C/C++/Delphi via standard Invocation API is also supported.

• Dynamic class loading across precompiled executable components is fully supported via class to DLL mapping

• Ability to use JET with multiple JDK/JRE versions on a single system and easily switch between them

• Proper support for custom classloaders

NEW IN VERSION 3.0 (Professional Edition only)

• Executable image optimization

  A feedback-based tool reorders code and data in compiled applications to minimize the amount of page faults. This results in faster application startup (2 and more times faster startup achieved for large programs on Windows NT/2000/XP) and reduced memory consumption (about 10%)

• JIT compilation may be enabled even for explicitly imported classes via reflective shield

  Special stubs are generated in places where classes absent at compile time are used. At run-time, a stub checks in the class has become available and either passes it to the JIT compiler or throws the respective exception.

• Scalable parallel garbage collector for n-way systems
