Excelsior JET 8.0 Rollout Plan

I am pleased to write that Excelsior JET 8.0 has entered the final QA phase. Here is what we will release in April:

  1. Excelsior JET 8.0 for 32-bit Windows, all editions
  2. Excelsior JET 8.0 for 32-bit Linux, all editions
  3. Excelsior JET 8.0 for 64-bit Windows, Professional and Enterprise editions only

Standard Edition users, you’ve read that right – there will be no 64-bit version for you. If you need 64‑bit support, make sure to upgrade to the Professional or Enterprise Edition.

All customers with valid support contracts for the Professional or Enterprise Edition for Windows will of course receive their 32‑bit upgrades, plus the 64‑bit version at no extra cost. (The 64‑bit version will come as a separate installer — we have not yet had the time to merge it with the 32‑bit one.)

We then plan to focus on Java 7 support, with the first public beta expected this fall, and on 64-bit application performance.

As far as the 64-bit Linux version is concerned, we have already started working on it and plan to release it before the end of 2013.

Now, please make sure to learn about the benefits for 32‑bit apps in version 8.0, and about the features that will be deprecated and delayed, then adjust your purchase/upgrade/migration plans accordingly.

Notice to potential customers: As we plan to raise some prices upon 8.0 release, you better not delay your purchase until then. All Excelsior JET licenses come with one year of support and upgrades, so if you buy version 7.6 now, you will get all the above mentioned upgrades for free.

Please post your questions or concerns, if any, in the comments below, or email us at java@excelsior-usa.com.
