You Can Help More Kids

As you may see, some families’ resources are so exhausted in the fight for their children lives that they have to ask even for small amounts of money. And these fights may be quite long, so the families may seek help again.

You can donate to Save Life directly to help these and other children. The foundation now accepts wire transfers in US Dollars and Euro. For details, open its Web site at http://save-life.ru/eng and scroll to the bottom.

Excelsior JET Charity Bundles Are Back!

Update 26-Dec-2013: The 2013 campaign has ended, with $8,236 raised in total.

Update 15-Jan-2014: A couple of late payments bumped the sum to $8,290.

Last year, we raised $5,690 for the Give Life Foundation by selling Excelsior JET, Standard Edition at a nominal fee.

We are doing this again, with a few differences:

  • The beneficiary is a local foundation called Save Life (Web site in Russian.)

It helps children and young adults that require expensive treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

  • Prices are not fixed, but more like “pay what you can”, with several tiers.
  • Those who give $50 or more will receive a free upgrade to Excelsior JET 9 in January. Yes, with Java 7 support.
  • The campaign will end a bit earlier, on December 25, so that we could make the donation before the end of the year, for tax purposes.

Final Results of Our 2012 Charity Program

Late in October 2012, we have introduced Excelsior JET Charity Bundles. A $10 Charity Bundle essentially included two things:

  • A free Excelsior JET license (Standard Edition w/o support)
  • Our promise to donate $10 to the Gift of Life foundation, which helps Russian children and young adults whose families cannot afford treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

We thought that we should be able to raise $1,000 by the end of 2012, but I am very pleased to report that the actual results have exceeded that estimate almost six times:

In 70 days, 325 people and companies from 50 countries
have purchased $5,690 worth of Charity Bundles.

Introducing Excelsior JET Charity Bundles

According to the Gift of Life foundation, in Europe and the United States 80% of children diagnosed with cancer survive.

In Russia fewer than 70% do.

Because the only difference is money, we have decided to run a small experiment.

Gift of Life logo

Gift of Life helps Russian children and young adults whose families cannot afford treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Through the rest of 2012, you can purchase Excelsior JET, Standard Edition without support for a nominal fee of $10 per platform. We shall donate all proceedings from these sales to Gift of Life on your behalf.

If you help us meet our modest $1,000 donation goal, we will consider extending this campaign to 2013. We may also try something different.

UPDATE: We have sold 54 licenses as of 24 hours since the official announcement, so we are just $460 short of the goal now!

The “canonical” URL that will always point to then current campaign is:
