SWT and runtime size

Recommended Posts

hi,

i'm evaluating JET 4.8 with a small SWT application. the swt jar is compiled to a shared dll, its size is ~3.6m, the main app is compiled to exe which is 50k. all these is perfect.

the problem is packaging. when i create a distributed package using JetPackII, its rumtime is 50m(expanded as a directory). it's too big.

why the runtime is so big? is it a limitation of eval version? the introduction on the web site says differently.

Sunny

why the runtime is so big?

To reduce the download size and disk footprint, you should use the Global Optimizer and compile the app classes, SWT and required platform classes into a single executable (see the Global Optimizer chapter of the JET User's Guide).

is it a limitation of eval version?

No, the Evaluation Package does not restrict the functionality.

the introduction on the web site says differently.

It says the truth ;)

Just check the size of the SWTDemo package at

      http://www.excelsior-usa.com/java-download-size.html

You may download the SWT sample and see it yourself

I would also recommend you to evaluate the latest Excelsior JET 5.0 available for download at
