Java SE 6 Update 10

Recommended Posts

I realize that Java SE 6 Update 10 is currently only a beta, but I was wondering when Jet will support this version. The "expected" release date for Update 10 is mid-2008.

For me, the issue is the 2D graphics performance on Windows Vista. The current version of 1.6 that Jet supports works great on XP but the 2D performance on my Vista machine is miserable. This isn't Excelsior's fault, of course.

I am talking about the DirectX pipeline, of course. Using OpenGL isn't realistic for me, at least not right now.

Thanks

James

Dear James,

I fully understand your concern.

We have more precise information on the first commercial shipment of Java SE 6 Update 10. Though I cannot disclose the exact date, I would say it's close to the end of 3Q 2008.

If the Sun's schedule is not changed, we will ship the version of  Excelsior JET with support for Java SE 6 Update 10 not later than the middle of 4Q 2008

Regards,

May I ask where we stand on this? Is there a general idea as to the date that we can expect SE 6 Update 10 for Jet?

I wouldn't be a nudge but traffic is fairly low on the forum right now.

Thanks

James

We are working on it now.

In fact, the support for Java SE 6u10 is already implemented in Excelsior JET 6.4.

As soon as we we finish QA, we release MP1 (within 2 weeks from now.)

By the way thanks for contributing back into OpenJDK!

You seem to be watching all our activities.  B)

Actually we have not yet started contributing, we're only going to.

Some (minor) legal issues must be settled with Sun first because we owns the commercial license for the Java SE sources.
