size of distributable

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

We're looking to use Excelsior to develop casual games in java.

One of the business issues we face is the size of Excelsior apps compared to an equivalent c++ application. The casual games marketplace favours downloads less than 25mb, and currently the xjre folder will zip down to around 20mb.

We're aware that a number of the dlls are unused by our games, but understand that we can't remove them from the distribution package because of license agreements between Excelsior and Sun.

So, my question is, are there any developments in this area? Either on the legal side to remove this restriction, or in the technology to make the xjre folder smaller?

Thanks,

Ricky

Yes. Just apply for closed beta program at

http://www.excelsior-usa.com/beta.html

and try JET 4.5 beta

Now the download size starts from 9MB. For example, a complete installation of SwingSet2 can be shrunk down to 11MB

Try it on your projects and let us know the results
