java.lang.NullPointerException

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have written a small application to transfer securely files over the internet in JAVA, compiled it with Jet and sent it to some users. One of them has been using it successfully until he installed Norton Antivirus on his PC. Now, the application displays this message:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException

I have added traces to see which instruction was causing the problem and it is when the application makes the main JFrame visible to the user.

Do you have any idea?

When compiling, I have set the traces to maximum. What can I do more to trouble shoot the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Hello,

First of all, we have never encountered such errors before.

We have looked at JET runtime code which reports "RegisterClassEx failed" error and found that such situation is definitely not a bug in JET. It may happen because of erroneous OS behavior or influence of 3rd-party system tools.

It seems that this version of Norton Antivirus afects JET-compiled programs negatively.

To get the application to work please ask user to install other antivirus software.

Also he can try to re-install JET-compiled application.

Regards,

Pavel
